Hi I just setup my gog account in order to download Planescape Torment. But now there are a bunch of free games in a list titled my games. So I tried downloading Ultima: Savage Empire and Ultima IV something about an avatar without success. I would like to know how to effectively download games the correct way before I spend money for Torment. That way when I pay I can be sure to get the torment game with success.

Successfully was able to download Ultima Savage Empires with all extra stuff. So I'm going to get a Card to pay for Torment and download it cause that's the real reason I came here in the first place.

It's going to be awesome getting to play Torment again cause I had got my original disk stolen and was never able to play it all the way through to the end but now I'll get the chance.

GOG offers two ways to download:

Direct download using browser: Simply go to 'My Account' -> My Games and select game from your shelf and click the download link(s) to download the files you want. Remember that in case of multi part installers you need to download all parts and have them all in same folder in order to be able to install the game. Remember to choose correct language and OS.

GOG.com Downloader: Download and install, then enable GOG.com Downloader mode in 'My Games' when you have game download page open. I don't use it so in case of questions about it, ask them here or contact support.

General advise: If you are running windows (Vista/Win7/Win8), install all games outside "program files" folder ("C:\games" or something) to avoid problems with older (and some newer) games. This applies to all games, not just GOG games.

Please, don't say things like these, or you'll confuse people. The GOG downloader is not like the Steam client, you still need to go to your game page and click the download button for the installer. The GOG downloader is merely a download manager to download your installer in an easier way, and keeping track of GOG notifications such as game updates, forum replies and messages you got. You can't download a game just by having it installed in your computer, you need to go to your account, select the game you wish to download and click on the download button, the same you would have to do if you were downloading it without the downloader. The only difference is that, using the GOG downloader, you use GOG's proprietary download manager, downloads are a bit faster and can be resumed if you need to pause them.

[EDIT] You're absolutely right about installing games outside the 'Program Files' folder, if you're using Win Vista, 7 or 8, though.

Hard to explain something I have never used but wanted to point the option is there as some poeple have had problems downloading thru browser and others with downloader. I was hoping the downloader page I linked would explain the use and function enough.

Only thing now I am wondering about is whether or not I will need my cd-rom capability. Cause if I do need cd-rom capability to play Torment that means I'll have to replace my broken cd-rom drive before I can actually play the game Torment. Hopefully though Torment will just work like Ultima Savage Empires did for me cause that didn't require me to have cd-rom capability at all to play the game.

I've read that few games have had a problem when trying to run them on computer without CD-ROM drive (usually laptops with no inbuild CD-ROM drive) but those are rare cases and there is a workaround for one's that GOG hasn't fixed yet (or can not) and that's installing virtual drive (Daemon tools or Alcohol 52% for example). One of the benefits of Digital Dowload stores is that downloads do not take space on our shelves after all.

I have Planescape and while it does briefly ask for a CD at some points, it still loads up the game after asking. I have played it with no CDs in my drive and have never had a problem.
The only game that ever actually demanded a CD was Serious Sam that sometimes only runs when you have a CD (any CD) in the drive. I've never come across that with Torment.

Ok I downloaded Torment to my new Dell Laptop. It has Windows 8.1 64 Bit installed on it. Will torment still work for me on this system? Or is there some special things I need to do. Sincerely Dominic Hester

It should work just fine.

But I'd suggest taking this discussion to the Planescape: Torment subforum, maybe there are also some threads in there that already have answers to your questions.


[EDIT] According to PS:T's GOG page/game card, it is compatible with Windows 8, so you should be fine running it.

If you have problems running Infinity Engine games (Planescape, Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale) you should apply the DirectDrawFix http://bitpatch.com/ie_ddrawfix.html . That fixed some glitches like the "mouse trail" for me.
