it does not know where the directory is. For some reason it wasn't programed to go into the directory and look. in Dos, you must search for the directory manually. dir /w or dir |more And doing this it is not easy. you must determine which "DOS name Ulitma IX is under. this, usuially depends on how many Ulitma games you have installed. Ulitma IX is listed as Ultima~(followed by a number) an dit may not always be ~9. it was under Ultim~11 for me becaus I have all the Ulitmas and spin offs installed, Worlds of Ultima, Savege Empire, Underworlds ect. When you find the directory type U9Name. it will allow you to name your character. But you must start a new game in Ultima IX before doing this or it will lock up. the that is done by going into the Ulitma IX save in the journel and paging back to "new game" you might want to delete old saves too.
