Ever thought that Ultima 6 was giving you trouble? Well, here is a way to break the game:
1. Get the Enchant and Armageddon spells, and a staff. You also need someone who can cast Enchant. (So level 7 with at least 7 MP.)
2. Cast Enchant, then place Armageddon on the staff.
3. Give the staff to someone other than the Avatar.
4. Press the number of that character you gave the staff to. This will enter solo mode.
5. Have that character use the staff. The game will now break.

Now, normally I'd advise you not to save after casting Armageddon, but in this case, the game is broken so badly that you won't even be able to save, and will actually have to reboot your DOS computer when you're done watching time pass between day and night rapidly.

So, enjoy your broken game!
well, clearly this is a bug and needs to be patched some day. nothing in the Armageddon spell description says it doesn't work in Solo mode!

The spell works fine; it's just that the game is advancing time until the deleted character's next turn comes!

(Also, since when did Armageddon have a spell description?)

oh, ah, right. well, what i wrote is still technically correct.

seriously, though, i'm sure the spell could do something better. what normally happens when a non Avatar character selected in Solo mode dies? i guess it goes back to the Avatar, but i'm not sure.. shouldn't Armageddon do the same?

does Armageddon delete the Avatar in this case?

what happens if the Avatar dies after casting Armageddon? is there an auto resurrection, or not?

Armageddon does not delete the Avatar, regardless of who casts it.

The deletion from Armageddon is not the same as a character death. If a character dies, there will be a corpse; if Armageddon is cast, on the other hand, there won't be. This means that, for example, you can't duplicate an item by casting Animate, then Clone, then destroying the clones through Armageddon. (It does work if you kill them normally, if the item can be animated.)

I believe that, if the current character dies, the game does exit solo mode. Thing is, the game does not do this when Armageddon is cast, hence the bug when the game keeps passing time until the character's turn comes up.

I haven't tried having the Avatar die after Armageddon, but my guess is that you'd end up by Lord British, as usual. (But Lord British won't talk, giving the same message you get when trying to talk to an inanimate object.)

By the way, if you animate a staff with charges, the charges will fall to the ground, so you can have an Armageddon charge just lying on the ground (but there appears to be no way of interacting with it). You can also get an unusable glitch charge by placing Enchant on the staff, then have someone not carrying a spellbook use it.
