Hi,

I bumped into a strange bug in Underworld 2, or am I just misunderstanding something? The first symptom could be seen, when I used the third blackrock gem that gets me to Killorn Keep. The correct side of the blackrock jewl did not light up, but I was nevertheless able to walk to the dark area of the jewl and get to Killorn Keep.

The real problem comes when I merge the fourth gem with the jewl, the one that should get me to Talorus. When I merge the gem, the side that gets me to Killorn Keep lights up, and not the one that gets me to Talorus. But the side that should light up does not let me pass. And now I have no more blackrock gems and I cannot travel to any more worlds.

Has anyone heard of this problem? I at least found nothing from the Internet. If there were some cheats in Underworld that let me create or copy items, that would probably help too, but there seem to be none. Any suggestions?

Hi,

I've just run into the same problem. Did you find a solution?

Anybody?

It's true that not all portals are active in the beginning, but there should be always two or three "flashing" portals in addition to those, that are permanently active because you used an activated black rock gem on them and once one of them is lit, you can walk through it to the next dimension.

Just wait a few moments in front of the large black rock gem until the portal lits up.

Sadly in my case there are only the first three facets in kight blue, the other ones remain in dark blue - no flashing.

I solved it... you need to talk to everyone in Castle British to advance the plot first. Even though it does not make much sense, the new portals will not open until you have talked to the right people in the castle.

Basically the way the game progresses is:
1) Go through new portal and find new gem
2) Go to the castle and talk to everyone
3) Go to a new world etc.
Your hint was on the spot - seems the murder of Lady Tory was the trigger.

I had already considered giving up on the game as I had to do some years ago when I ran afoul of the 'Mors Gotha'-bug.

Thank you fpr your help!
There are several points at which new facets will become usable, but the triggers for these are related to events in the castle and occasionally in other worlds. Merging treated gems does not, in itself, inherently cause new facets to activate.
Well, the game kinda directs one to those conversations, since the Avatar is supposed to visit Miranda often and she then tells him whether someone in the castle wants to talk. Just don't try to streamline the gameplay too much. ;-)

i am having the same problem -- hence i am refreshing this thread. applied a fourth blackrock to the main gem and cannot get to talorous. HALP please!
*** SPOILERS ***

The way the large blackrock gem works is as follows:

A. Each of the 8 facets leads to a different world. The same facet will always lead to the same world.

B. You can only travel through a facet to enter another world if the facet is lit up

C. The gem will randomly light up one facet at a time, cycling every 8 seconds. The facet is randomly chosen from the available worlds. Depending on how far the plot has progressed, the first X worlds will be accessible. Here are the triggers:
1. Start - only the first world is accessible (Prison Tower)
2. After visiting the Prison Tower, talk to Miranda about entering another world. This allows the next two worlds to be accessible (Killorn Keep and Ice Caverns)
3. After killing "The Listener", talk to Miranda to learn of Lady Tory's murder. This opens up three more worlds (Talorus, Scintillius Academy and Pits of Carnage)
4. Killing Patterson after he murders Nelson opens up the final two worlds (Tomb of Praecor Loth and the Etheral Void)

D. Finding a small blackrock gem in one of the foreign worlds, having that gem treated by Nystul, then applying it to the large blackrock gem will leave that world's facet permanently lit (brighter than the randomly lit facet, but this is just cosmetic). This allows you to more easily access the world without needing to wait for it to be randomly switched on.

E. The facets lead to the following worlds, starting from the North-North-East corner and moving clockwise:
1. Prison Tower
2. Killorn Keep
3. Ice Caverns
4. Talorus
5. Scintillius Academy
6. Pits of Carnage
7. Tomb of Praecor Loth
8. Ethereal Void

It's a bit difficult and depends greatly upon the angle from which you approach the gem. Several degrees off and you'll just bump into it or land into a wrong world. I kept teleporting to the Ice Caverns when I wanted to go to Talorus. So try entering the gem from a slightly different angle each time until you make it.
I always put an item down in front of the facet, that leads to the prison tower.
