Wolfram_von_Thal: No, you still have to accomplish Zauriel's quest. But it's a cool quest with nice rewards imho (I just love the firedoom staff) and you can do it at any time you want.

ncarty97: Unless he's changed it, while yes you can start it at any time, its got pretty hard combat and you won't succeed until your party is reasonably high level.
I didn't fight the mage and his entourage right at the beginning, that's right, but until then I stored my keys in a bag. Thanks to alt+k you don't have to search for the right key anyway.
