I just installed and started playing Ultima 7 and am having difficulty with NPC conversations. I will start a conversation and for a couple of exchanges the response time between when I click the left mouse button to advance the conversation and when there is an actual advancement is nearly instantaneous. But then the response grows longer, sometimes as much as a minute or more. Has anyone else had this happen and what did they do about it?

Hmm, sorry to hear about that. I haven't encountered that issue. Are you playing this on the PC using GOG Galaxy? Or are you using Exult? Sounds like a memory leak issue.

I did some web searching and played with the DOSBox configuration settings, and I believe I have solved the problem. DOSBox sets the mouse autolock to true by default. I left it that way because it hadn't caused problems with any of the previous Ultima games. But Ultima 7 kind of forces you to use the mouse, so it does cause a problem for this game. I changed the setting to false and the problem went away.
