Hello,

I am having some problems with this game and I am hoping that someone out there knows of a solution.

When I start the game the into movie plays for 2secs then stops, if I press esc twice I am taken to the main menu and the the game itself runs fine. However it also appears that all movies shown in the in-game database do not play either.

This isn't a HUGE problem as the game seems to run however I would like to be able to see the movies.

I have tried running the game in compatibility mode for xp and vista and I have run it as an admin & disable visual themes nothing seems to work.

anyone out there have any ideas? ... system specs below :)

EDIT: Since I have posted this the main globe screen in game is now running very very very laggy :( ... looks like the gameplay is not unaffected after all

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU950 @ 3.07GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.1GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Card name: ATI Radeon HD 4800 Series

Thanks,

I've got exatly the same problem. I've had a look around and tried compactability mode. but nothing helped.

Also finding that the configuration utility won't let me change anything. If I do the game simply crashes out
I've the same problem, but unlike you, I'm running on Linux via Wine. I just finished the game, and the only problem I had was with the movies.

Thanks,
I apologize for bumping this topic, but I do believe it is for a good reason: I have ATI card and I had the same problem with intro, black screen or just the first frame showing together with the music playing in the background. Turns out this problem is present since the original release back in 2003. I spent some time looking for the right solution and I finally found something:

here, at the bottom of page 2

I adjusted the setting in CCC as suggested and IT WORKS.
I do not know if the nVidea users have the same problems or if they can tweak their settings in a similar way, but I do hope this helps.
Thanks for the fix.
I've also tried it and it works on 32 and 64 bit windows.

However I've done a bit of experimenting and discovered that the videos run O.K. with default catalyst settings except for "wait for vertical refresh" which needs to be set to either "On, unless application specifies" or "Always On".
Yeah, I did read somewhere (maybe in that topic I posted?) that vertcal refresh migh be the problem, but I decided not to toy with settings too much, just set them as suggested and was happy everything is ok. But thank you for your info, I'll give it a try.
i know this is old but just in case anyone has the same problem as me.
the above recommended settings of the vertical refresh etc did not solve my problem of the video not playing more then the first frame.

However changing the settings for Anti-Aliasing to:
uncheck use application settings,
level 4
filter: edge - detect

These were preformed in the AMD CCC (aka amd vision engine control centre); under Gaming > 3D Application Settings(high performance graphics) - This section may not be applicable to you; as iv set the game to run on high graphics as i use a AMD Radeon Dual Graphics card!

These settings seem to solve the problem my intro vid playing problem!
the weirdest thing is that if I shift-tabbed into my steam overlay (even though its a non steam game (cd purchased) the vid would work!!!).

not sure i like leaving the above settings to on but will see how the system holds, maybe i can make a game profile to have these settings only apply for aftermath.
I've got the same problem with movies not playing and the globe being extremely laggy. In CCC I've tried applying the suggested changes but I guess I have a different version as the Anti-Aliasing dropdown has either "Use application settings, Enhance application settings or Override application settings" Has anyone else come up with a solution for this type of AMD graphics card?
