I know some people are having problems with crashes, choppy/stuttering movies, and resolution problems (I'm one of them) and it appears that these problems are due to the game not creating a config file during installation.
I tried creating the config file based off of Namur's suggestion using his config file, but it seems unique to his computer and I haven't been able to get the settings right by trial and error-The problem is the KEY "video_mode" INT 88 line.
I was wondering, could people please copy and paste their config.cfg files here so we could maybe find some settings that work? Below is mine, though I've changed it back to match Namur's original file because I wasn't making any headway on changing the settings.

I used my laptop (which worked) and it used -1 instead of 88. So the "correct" setting is -1.
But I just went back to check the other thread, and burigufutsushide figured out a solution that works even better than fiddling around and trying to get 88 to work:
Basically, it has to do with refresh rates. You want your video card to wait for vertical refresh unless the application specifies. Usually, your video card will just refresh to give you better framerates. That is bad (for this game, and this game alone :p)
If you have an ATI card, go to the Catalyst Control Center, go to the Graphics Settings, 3D, All, and look for "Wait for vertical refresh". The third tick mark (On, unless application specifies) is what you want.
If you have an nVidia card: Figure it out and tell us :p

Unfortunately no luck on the -1 or the vertical refresh on my machine. The -1 is the correct resolution, but the color is off- Everything is blue. When I completely remove the .cfg file the color and resolution is fixed, but it goes back to choppy framerates on video and crash out when starting the game.
As to the vertical refresh, it didn't make a difference on my machine.

Strange. For me, 88 gave no chops but hinky resolution and blue.
One thing I was going to try before I just gave up and started my game on my laptop was to look for a gamma setting. The really dark screen and only blues made me think of games with really low gamma for some reason.

Just to clear something up. That config file is not mine. At the time i posted it in the other thread, like i mentioned to Gundato, i still didn't had the game so i had to look up fo a config file on the web. I found that config file on the ALTAR forums and i even posted a link to it.
Anyway, i picked up the game today and just installed it.

Regarding your color problems, look into the
KEY "colors32b" BOOL TRUE
line.
In the config file posted on the ALTAR forums that boolean is set to FALSE, so if you're still using that value maybe that's what's messing up your colors.
Try to create a new config.cfg using the content of mine to see if that solves anything...

Namur, your config file corrected the resolution and color problems, but now I'm back to choppy video and crashes whenever I try to start a game. At this point I'm not sure what else to try... Any suggestions?

Now that you have a config file in the game folder, does the config tool still crashes when you try to run it ?
And you're on XP, right ? Have you tried adjusting the Sound Hardware Acceleration ? (you can do it via DxDiag)

The config tool still crashes, just as before. Correct on XP. I just tried adjusting sound settings, I was full acceleration- tried Standard, basic, and none, no effect unfortunately. I'm unfortunately out of ideas other then waiting for tech support from GOG- How long do they usually take?

Where are you guys finding the config.cfg file for Aftermath? I've tried looking for it, and I don't see anything, and I'm on Vista.

I'm on XP and I don't know what they are talking about.
For UFO:Aftershock, a problem can be resolved by deleting the profilesnfo.txt file in Profiles folder, launching the game, choosing back our game profile, and changing the options.
We can too start playing in a window to correct the options, if can't play fullscreen.
