And how am I supposed to get passwords for higher difficulty?

I've learned about higher difficulty levels only by reading article on wikipedia. And actually there are codes for higher difficulty settings. But I'm curious, how am I supposed to learn this codes in game?

If you mean "Impossible", "Suicide" and "Lord of the Game" difficulty levels, they are all hidden and could be activated only using cheats; the can't be unlocked playing the game, however collecting Data Cubes will reveal hints about these cheats among other useful information.

Ah, so I need specific Data Cubes for higher difficulty? (or just learn cheat code from guides) Is there a guide for all Data Cubes?

Thank you. Looks like the hint for Impossible difficulty is a random hint that pops up after completing an episode.
