DreadStar: The Quest for Revenge is a game that is partly inspired from Tyrian (and other classics like Raiden, Donpachi, etc.) and has RPG elements such as leveling up, skill points, inventory system, difficulty levels, unlockables, etc.
It is currently on steam greenlight but will come to gog if it is accepted here (it hasn't been submitted yet).
