I'm geting 45 fps in Tyranny, but I'm using a GTX 1080 and i7 3770k OCed to 4.5 GHz. What's the deal? I should be able to run this game without any issues. I get 100 fps in Pillars. Looking at my GPU usaged, it never goes above 50%. I've set power management to maximum performance in the NVIDIA control panel, and it still runs poorly. I should also note that I am using a GSYNC display, but disabling GSYNC in the NVIDIA control panel didn't change anything either. Lowering antialiasing also has no effect on my framerate. Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

Edit: And before anyone asks, yes my GPU drivers and Windows are up to date.

Edit 2: Looking a little closer, it looks like a CPU bottlneck. This game somehow uses over 50% of my CPU and nearly maxes out one of my cores. This is probably why my GPU is stuck at 50% usage. That's pretty shitty. I hope this gets fixed by Obsidian soon. This is really hampering my enjoyment of an otherwise awesome game.

There's also an in-game FPS-limiter, did you check what it's set to?

I have it set to no limit, and setting a limit has no effect on frame rate. The game is just very poorly optimized. I thought it would just be 1 area, but I've been encountering areas with really bad frame rate the more I play. I've put the game on hold until this issue gets patched, or someone finds a workaround.

Games like this will never be optimized for high frame rates--PoE won't play one iota better at 100 fps versus 60 fps. These games--isometric RPGs--are not first-person shooters that generally require fast frame-rates because the number of pixels changing from frame to frame is often large--hence shooters are the market for very powerful GPUs, primarily. Using them for PoE, Tyranny, imo, is bound to be a waste in terms of frame-rates required to smoothly play. When I play these games I never look at frame rates because I simply don't care--as long as the animation is smooth without hitching at my chosen resolution with max IQ I'm happy, and I think most people would be, too. Also, in a game like PoE, the only "3d" elements on the screen are the player characters, NPCs and monsters (and their magic effects and explosions, usually.) All of the backgrounds in PoE are 2d imagery.

I'm really responding to your post mostly because I think it's first one I've ever heard complaining of low frame rates in games like these...;) But, don't misunderstand--if you are getting hitching and stuttering along with your sub-optimal frame rates, you have every reason to complain. But I'm playing PoE with an R9 380 4GB GPU that I know is less powerful than your GPU--but I'm not hitching and everything plays very well--1920x1200, but sometimes I use 2560x1600 VSR. Are *you* using VSR? If so, trying playing at your monitor's native res. But really, as long as you aren't stuttering or chugging along, raw frame rate is not much to be concerned with in these kind of games--imo, of course...;)

It's been many years since I used nVIdia products, but one thing I remember is that nVidia drivers tend to lean on the cpu quite a bit--don't know if that is still true, of course. Interesting post!

You just wrote a condesending miniature essay chastising me because I want a higher frame rate, and then pointed out a ton of reasons why this game should have no problem achieving a higher frame rate. I don't know how to respond to your comment. Thanks?

Lol...;) Didn't mean to come off condescending. Sorry. I only meant that I don't think high-end frame rates are even a design consideration for this kind of game, that's all. Of course, there is nothing "wrong" with your wanting higher frame-rates! Maybe they'll do something about that--we'll see. It could be that nVidia hasn't optimized its drivers for these games for the reasons I mentioned, too. Who knows at this point? Hope you'll see this addressed as you'd like...;)

Not sure what your issue is. I have an AMD cpu and an NVidia GTX 1060, and I have absolutely no issues at all. My cpu and gpu don't even break much of a sweat.

Granted, my cpu is an 8core, but your i7 should be able to perform on par with mine, if not do a little better. I can generally tell if the fps is below 50 in my games, and I haven't noticed any low frames in mine to speak of, but I haven't monitored it either, because there's no point for me. The game plays smoothly and that's all that matters, for me.

If you find a solution, that's awesome, though :) I do seem to remember when Sacred 2 came out, there was a command parameter that forced it to work better with multi thread cores. You might want to check into that, just in case it's a threading issue with your i7.
