I live in Canada and I cannot help but notice that the Commander version of the game is $51.99 on Gog but only $49.99 on Steam.

This is a shame becuase I prefer my games DRM free. That way I can play them when I travel without the hassle of having Steam verification problems.

Unfortunately if it will be cheaper on Steam, that might be the best approach.

Other than that, is it just me or does this game seem to have a high price overall? The regular version is a pretty normal price I guess, but there is a version costing almost twice as much, a bit like a collectors edition, but since its digital... it seems a bit much. A digital art book? If its only digital and not physical, then that price seems a bit high to me.

Maybe its just that I have not bought digital collectors editions before. The game sure looks good, but not sure exactly what it is. The description here on GoG so far is rather limited.

I agree that the price overall is too high. And to be honest, my post was a veiled attempt to point this out. The normal edition seems slightly high at $50. $40 -$45 seems about right. And looking at the the two other versions you really don't get your money's worth there either.

But I'll probably buy it here. I have nothing against Steam, after all they do have games that no one else has. For Instance Cvilization 5 basically demanded it, unfortunately. And I bought Tides of Numenera on Steam solely to get early access that wasn't available here. But when given the option I always buy it here instead.

If I were to go on vacation and want to play a game Steam needs me to verify because my computer is in a different place. That's just too much, it really is.

But I already have the account thanks to Civ. And I didn't think that much about it, after all the early acces was over a year in advance for a game that I was already waiting two years for.

Not to mention with any luck I can sink that particular game with Steam, now that they have that feature. If so, I get this one free!

still pillars of eternity is actually drm-free on steam (I know because I got it as a birtday present on steam).... if this game is drm-free on steam there is no reason to buy it here with an higher cost.
Right now I think I will not buy this game for another reason... Pillars of Eternity got my main language, but there is no italian translation for tyranny right now and I don't want to support a successful developer that avoid italian language on purpose

yeah, PoE is DRM free on Steam, one can run the game right from the executable in PoE folder without Steam even running. So no problems with needing an internet connection to play the game because it wants to phone home to Steam.

As to the Italian Language, I have a feeling that has more to do with Paradox than it does with Obsidian. This is a Publisher paid developed game, and it is possible Paradox doesn't want to support the Italian Language.

The base edition of the game seems normally priced, but i cant say the same for the special editions
the Overlord edition of the game is basically $100 Australian dollars and all you receive is online art books and other online bonuses.

Would expect a hard copy to be sent out for spending that much...

As I mentioned in another thread, I am not buying at this price, and if indie gaming is moving to AAA $60 pricing, I can see it's quick demise.

Hmm, I'm not too sure about the price being too high, even games like the BG II was around the 45~50 mark when it came out. Counting inflation I'd say the price sort-of stayed around the same mark.

Not to mention, this is a full production game from an established studio, not an indie game with one or two staff working full time.

The whole collector's editions seem to be in a different league though, I feel people are being charged more for a lot less...

Anyone know if you purchase the game on steam, will the steam key from this game also be redeemable with GOG? like some other games have done in the past including for example The Witcher.

I use Steam and GOG too, and I too prefer GOG over Steam if I can. However... You know Steam has an offline mode right? Steam doesn't know or care if your computer is in a different place and doesn't need to verify anything if you move it. If you're not going to have internet access for a while and if you know beforehand that you won't have access (i.e. going to an vacation), it's best to put Steam in offline mode first, then make sure each game you want will work.

I've gone to large LAN parties where there wasn't internet access and taken my notebook with me on trips, and I set Steam offline beforehand and have never had any problems.

A few months ago, storms damaged my ISP's equipment leaving me without internet for almost a week. Steam went right to offline mode and I didn't any problem playing games during that time.
