This game runs terrible on 4k.
The UI is tiny and some icons are impossible to see.

The font can be adjusted only up to 125% which is still too small for 4K.

Will Obsidian ever release a patch for these issues?

Are there any mods that fix them? couldn't find any mods at all for tyranny, except for portraits and cosmetics.

Is there any ini file that I can edit, registry setting that I can change, tool that can scale the UI but not distort the text?

Heeeeeeeelp :)

(p.s. playing on a lower res is NOT an option for me)

As far as I know, this is a common issue for the engine used. As far as I know, you might manually scale everything by using settings in the compability mode tab under windows, but have the game itself run in a resolution that matches your aspect ration, but is at a lower resolution.

Any particular reason why not just changing resolution is an option?

Hi. Thanks for the reply! :)

I read that with POE it's possible to scale up to 4K, but I don't have POE 1 or 2 so can't confirm.

More details on the compatibility mode please.

As for not changing the res, running the game in 1080 is terrible on 4K because all the texts are super blurry, and this is a game with lots of text and reading.

If there is a way to run it at a lower res so that the UI size is decent, not tiny, while at the same time preventing the text from getting super blurred I'll be happy to try it.

From what I know and cannot test myself, you should try the following (assuming windows 8):

1. Go to the Tyranny folder and right-click on the exe you end up using and go to properties

2: Go to the "Compatibility" tab

3: Click on "Change high DPI settings"

4: Ensure the "Override high DPI scaling behaviour. Scaling performed by:" box is checked, and that the dropdown option below has the "system (Enhanced)" option selected. (That option seems to be the choice that manages to preserve small fonts and boxes well)

5: Then run your game at the same aspect ratio of your monitor but in a lower resolution, like 1920x1080 for 4K, and in borderless window mode, and your UI should be scaled correctly.

Sadly the option is greyed out

Mangaed to change that for "all users" .. my user's option was greyed out, but all users allowed to change.
But in any case, it didn't have an effect on the sharpness of the fonts in 1920x1080 ...
Scaling up on 4K still looks bad.

I have a partial workaround using reshade.me, but it's very expensive.

Any other thoughts?
Strange that this game has zero mods. Being made with Unity, it should be possible to hack some internal plumbing no?
If anyone has suggeestions let me know.
I imagine Obsidian has given up on this game by now and won't be making future patches.
Maybe Tyranny2 will be better supported.

Late, but there is now.

Kinda glad I held off on playing the game until 2024. It's pretty much forgotten by everyone, but at least there's someone out there with the knowledge and skills to improve a quite critical flaw with a game at modern resolutions. I even have difficulty on a 34" at 3440x1440.

Thanks for the reply. Late but better than nothing.
I might have a reason to replay this game someday :)
