I've just installed TW2 and have found it overheats my cpu when playing. Looking closer into this I've found that the installer installs two versions of the game - TwoWorlds2.exe and TwoWorlds2_DX10.exe and it is the DX10 version that is the culprit as it is the one set up by default to play.

I started to play the game and within 5 minutes my cpu temp had soared up to the low 90s. I then stopped playing as I thought this seemed very hot. I let my computer cool down a bit and then launched the game from TwoWorlds2.exe which seems to keep a steady temp of around 73 degrees.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the two executables and why the DX10 runs so much hotter?

Also, if the DX10 offers a better gaming 'experience' how do I set it up to run cooler?

The one uses DX9 and the other uses DX10. Both versions work in a slight different way. I am wondering that the DX10 version is running hotter, because the different DX APIs primarily affect how the GPU is utilized and not how the CPU is utilized (besides of CPU optimizations like those done in DX12).

Could it be that the GPU temperature is also higher with DX10 than with DX9. In such a case, an explanation could be that the higher GPU temperature also increases the CPU temperature because the temperature is to close to the GPU.

But all in all whether the game, nor the DX API or even game settings are the problem! The problem seems to be that the cooling of your hardware isnt sufficient or isnt performing very well. If you built your computer by your own, you should consider replacing your cooling units by better ones. But if you bought the system as an unit (especially notebooks) then you should contact your vendor, because a system shouldnt be overheating, despite of the software you are using (except of overclocking tools and such), so that this is a malfunction of the system.

Also consider that the cooling units perform worse how older they are, for example because of to much powder on them, so that cleaning them could also prevent your system from overheating. Another fact is that powerful notebook hardware get hotter than normal desktop hardware.

To be honest though I'm not sure if it is my CPU or GPU that is getting hot - I run Afterburner to have the temperature thing running in the corner of the game. I usually run Afterburner for a while on any new (to me) games that I play so I can monitor what is going on. This is because the only other game I have ever had problems with was Aarklash which caused the fan to start roaring away so loudly and support wanted to know how hot it was running. I then thought it was a good idea to check for the first few plays of any new game to see what the temperature was doing.

The thought of changing/cleaning my cooling units sends me into a panic as I really don't know enough to start tackling that so I'm happy to let sleeping dogs lie and just play the non DX10 version which doesn't seem to tax my hardware.

I guess I'm lucky that these are the only two games that have caused this problem, let's hope it stays that way! :)

Nothing wrong with desktops & games...;) Heck, that's the preferred hardware paradigm, actually--when playing games it is a platform much to be desired over laptops (which are business oriented and concerned with battery life more than anything else, and this often makes them poor gaming machines.) Indeed, with a desktop you can upgrade your hardware a component or two at a time and before you know it you'll be running SoA hardware. There are many other substantial advantages, too, in a desktop, so at least you are off on the right foot...;) First thing you need to do is to bone up thoroughly on CPUs and GPUS so that you understand the basics well enough to cogently explain the basic differences if asked. Not knowing which is which means that you are approaching the danger level where your inadequate knowledge may very well cause you to make poor choices & reach even poorer conclusions about various conditions affecting your gaming hardware. (Afterburner monitors GPU activity, btw--I would not advise you using it until you learn quite a bit more about your own hardware so that you can understand cause & effect in your computer environment.) See, the problem is you really don't know what you're doing and already you are drawing conclusions that are most likely egregious error...! Before changing your cooling you first have to determine if you are running hot and why it might be happening, etc.

To start with, first rule of thumb when asking for help/advice is to reveal your hardware specs--cpu, gpu, installed ram, motherboard/machine manufacturer, hard drives, etc. Without such information it becomes completely impossible that you can receive any meaningful advice that might actually bear on your situation. There are about as many unique computer hardware combinations as there people on the planet...so you can see why such information is vital to anyone who may try and assess whatever problem you're having and how to help you...!

Meanwhile, if you become convinced your GPU is running hot, first thing you might want to do is to open the/a side panel on your case and move the panel away just to see if this helps with your temps--some cases are not cooled well at all which causes heat to build up inside. Cracking open your case, or even removing the panel completely can often alleviate that condition without your having to replace a single cooler in your system.

Hi everyone

i brought 2 worlds 2 last night and after i installed it, it will not run, all it will do is show the hour glass and use like 54% of cpu i have tried waiting ect and it never loads ,,

there was a few issues i had too

1st

i had the two worlds already and well this new install killed my phis x and it would not boot till i reinstalled the old
two worlds phys x on that disc ,,, later i got the NVIDIA PhysX Legacy System Software from the site

which then let me boot my old two worlds but the the two worlds two will not run at all

i have tried reinstalling it now 12 times all i get is the hour glass icon and it never boots

this is the only game i got on gog that i had an issue with,, and now im a little worried about this since this one has caused me problems with a game i had ect ,

but i did fix the old two worlds it runs again,, but i also noticed that theres a dx 10 and 9 in the gog folder for the new two worlds two , but both have the same loading hour glass icon and using 54% cpu but they both never boot the game,,

in the task manager i never see a game client being run ect but it shows theres 54% mem use happing ,,
its really weird,

and that hour glass never stops till i reboot pc, i have waited 25 min and still no game running or showing in task manager ect and mem stays showing that 54% use from me clicking game to run it ?

im on the older xp 32 bit sp3

and in the game info before i brought it , it said ithe game can run on xp but never said anything about dx so i thought being xp its dx9 since thats what xp uses , not dx10 so not sure whats happing ,, can anyone help thie new gog user?

love these old games brought a bunch but this one is my first non working one here :(
