I think I would be apble to enjoy this game if it wern't for the wolves waiting outside to attack me and owning my @$$ every time I try to fight back. There's reasonble challenge, and then there's "can't kill the first enemy the game throws at you!"

Someone help me! Thank you.

Make use of default healing spell - it really saves your skin when in peril. Also try to use 'Q' (default) to dodge back and get a moment of breather - either using healing spell or offensive one is okay.

Also - in the beginning it's easiest to go for warrior skills - they really make a difference. Secondly remember to do a bit of main quest - it's a gold mine for XP, you should also try to kill some groms and level up.

Wolves are quite dangerous because they attack in packs, that's why escaping them is sometimes the only option on the low level - so run for the hills and the town guards will take care of them...
Yes, the "jump back" key is a very important one to get used to. Also, early on I would sometimes lead wolf packs back to mana shrines, so I could continuously heal myself while I fought.

Things will get easier as you gain a few levels and get better equipment. If you haven't already, it's a good idea to follow the first few steps of the main quest before you go off an explore on your own, because you'll be able to gain a few levels quickly that way. Also, don't forget to investigate alchemy... certain potions can permanently raise your stats which is very useful.
Wolves are weak to fire and sword. All monsters in the game have weaknesses, if you use their weakness against them, you can do more damage.

Dodging back is good. Running away before monsters attack works the same. You just have to do it before they complete their attack animations.

Solving all quests as soon as you can is not always the best idea, but it's up to the player what they want to do. You get more money and experience points the higher level you are for most quests.

Also try using the fire spell you get at the beginning for a range attack to start the fight, even if you don't want to train in magic right away. You'll do damage before they arrive. If need be, try to kill some, then run away to heal, then return to finish them off. All monsters will stop chasing you after a while, some chase you longer depending on what they are.

If at first it's tough, it'll get easier to handle yourself after the first few levels and you find some equipment and get the hang of things.
