I just started playing Two Worlds 2 and I get the gist that the intro cinematic depicts the "Battle of Oswaroth" between the Orcs and Gandohar's forces. Merchants in the town of Bayan also can be heard saying that they have items from the battle. So my question is, when and where was this battle supposed to have taken place? In Two Worlds 1, Oswaroth was an abandoned / ruined city where the final battle took place.

The battle is depicted in the intro movie. It is not an important factor in the game except it gives the Orc's a reason to get even. If you watch the intro movie the battle is depicted.
