So, I bought Two Worlds a few days ago, and I'm having a great time!!
I simply fell in love with this gem, after a few hours of gameplay I forgot all about poor reviews and the common notion on gaming forums that "Two Worlds is the worst game ever!" - personally I love the voice acting, so cool with the made-up(?) old english :D
If only people would play more than 15 mins before deciding on a verdict for this game ...

I decided to go with a sneaky archer, which in my opinion is alot of fun :)
Only issue with archery in Two Worlds is that when lots of enemies approach me, they constantly stop me in my attacks (bow drawing) which makes alot of the gameplay like "shoot - run 10 ft, shoot again - rinse and repeat" - not fun if chased by 10 orcs..
I realized that there's a skill for the starting draw position of the bow - I'm hoping this will help with close encounters :D

I also prefer Two Worlds' multi-arrow over Two World 2's multi-arrow approach - never figured it out in the heat of a battle in the sequel, with all the "first you press 2, then you press X and then you bring us a cup of coffee" etc. :D Much more simple in Two Worlds - no fuss, just shoot ^^

Okay, okay, here's my question:
What are your experiences with archery in this game? Any tips for a newcomer, or anything else that would be nice to know?
Most people will most likely roll a warrior - so I felt we needed an archery topic in here to balance things a bit :D
Hey there,

I'm also playing a sneaky, roguish archer as my first character. For some time I thought that it will be a pain to use a bow in this game, because a lot of usual enemies are very tanky. Of course you will have to kite on many things. I have maxed Drawing Speed and put some points in critical hit chance with arrows. And it's going fine, especially when crits occur every few arrows. Also, when you use Hit & Run tactic, be sure to "sheathe" the bow while you run, because running speed improves if your weapon is on your back. So you can run away the safe distance faster, turn back and rain them with arrows sooner:)

What can I say, I guess Starting Draw is also useful. I am not very far in the game yet myself, maybe halfway the main quest and around level 30.

Myself, I don't like warriors, unless they are roguish. When I start playing an RPG I typically consider rogue between mage :D Next character I'll try on Two Worlds I think will be a mage. I like this interesting magic system in the game.
I'm playing shield/sword warrior, but I also use bow from time to time. It's really great for drawing first blood and dealing with all these zombies, ghouls and other slow and tanky enemies. Of course it takes time and patience to finish them of, but it's better than healing all that damage.

While I usually also get rogues and thieves to steal everything that isn't nailed to the ground I also already understood that this doesn't work in Two Worlds. You can't really pickpocket a friendly nor it's advisable breaking into people homes to steal stuff... because invisible guard will see you... yup.

The only advice I can offer is that:
sometimes when you're shooting enemies from far away (especially when they're sitting beside fire or sth like that) it seems their AI can't path to you in time. So they stand up, move few meters and go back to their positions. Useful for dispatching bigger groups. Even if a bit AI cheating.

This if from TW2. Terrible. Theres a lot of gripes with this game... for now, archery.

Combat in this game reminds a lot of older games like Summoner(well, it was tactical based) and M&M Crusaders, a throwback without any improvements.

The abilities on the archer tree looks useful but you dont start with them boiling the battles to hit and run tactics. Hell, a Pin Down(slow/cripple) ability to start off would have been nice, instead you start with Multi-Arrow(think of it like a Shotgun, its better up close and only up close) and Fire Arrow that is if you found it before leaving the first island...

At later lvls, you can look them up on youtube, Archery becomes broken but starts off terrible.

Right now I dont know if I can bare my archer to see it become a great one or just drop the game altogether. In all, I think is bad.

I think that should have been "prey", not "pray", but anyway.

Yeah, I know this is an old thread, but I thought I'd add my two cents worth, anyway.

I've been playing Two Worlds for a while now, started following the main quest line the first time, then restarted.

Second time I decided to follow side quests and build my character, ignoring the main quest line (even though I know my character is supposed to be concerned for his sister). Restarted again...

Third (and subsequent times), I decided to do something different. First, I do what I need to do to get the teleport stones, and training in all skills (for 100 gp each). Then, I decided to sneak everywhere and see how many horses I could steal from groms, bandits, necromancers, orcs, etc. - basically everywhere I could get to. My idea here was to gain as much storage as I could (I started taking them all to Tarbaken, so I could sort my loot between them, and sell what I didn't need there), near the teleporter.

Okay, so, what's this got to do with archery? Well...

Several things I noticed:

1) As you find new bows and quivers, keep the best bow, and the best of each kind of quiver with you. Swap out the quivers depending on what kind of enemy you are fighting.

2) When mobbed, if you can get across a cell border, they may be stopped there. You can shoot at them, and they may lunge, but not very far, and not know where the shot came from (they no longer see you).

3) I have yet to try this, but, if you can, try to add Spirit damage to a bow that has a long range. My understanding is that Spirit damage is the only damage there is no resistance for in the game.

As for skills, I have never maxed out any skills, so I can't speak to what skills to concentrate on, but I seem to like piercing arrow more than multi-arrows.

Hope this helps someone,

PK

Usually, this is the type of character I play in TES games, but for Two Worlds and Two Worlds 2 I went for a more swordplay approach. This especially works well in the first game as you can get fairly powerful swords early on. My usual loadout is light/medium armor, a bludgeon/pierce two-handed, a slashing/pierce two-handed and a powerful bow. I spend points frequently in Strength, Vitality and Dexterity with a smattering in Willpower as I use magic primarily to injure mobs before wading in with the melee weapons.

Bows are for distance assassinations (getting the drop on Grom Shamans for example), With a good bow and a couple points in the Archery skill set, I can one-shot most enemy magic users and archers before they know I'm there. As the mob charges, I use Fireball to damage the entire group and then melee to cleanup the stragglers. I'm about level 20 right now and can take on most mobs north of the Gon without too many problems.
