How annoying, just bought this game and got it installed and ready. First it crashes directly on startup. I verify/repair the game and seems like some files are missing since it downloads them. Second, then when I boot it up it crashes after less than 1 minute in the start menu.
I like to support GOG, but this is the second time a game isn't working properly. I also can add I use Galaxy when I play my games but maybe GOG is more for people just to have pure DRM free games instead of a launcher? I am now reinstalling we will see how it goes...
EDIT: Still crashes. In the intro sequence on menu it crashes when the crane comes into the picture and the thing is falling...
UPDATE
There are people in this thread explaining how and why this bug might be occouring. If you aren't on the older Windows version still that seems to be working (as it did for me before autoupdate got me) and the problem you are having is because of something with the Realtek audio (See thread for explanations on that matter) this solution might help to get sound working
How this worked for me:
I have a monitor with audio output
1. Disconnected from my onboard audio jack
2. Plugged headphones into screen audio jack
3. Went into settings and changed audio output device to NVIDIA High Definition
4. Go to Tropico 5 install folder and change Tropico5.exe to run under Windows 8 Compatibility
5. Launch game and it doesn't crash like before
So I guess if the Realtek device is causing the issue this might help you
