Still not working for me : /
I don't know what happened. When I tried playing the game again the next day, it worked. No CD error! Wonder if it was something to do with the registry which required a restart...
By the way, I installed Tropico 1 and 2 separately as there was an error when I tried to install both together.
Doing the same thing w/ my game. Tropical 2 works, but when trying to run Tropical 1, I get the "load CD" window.

Yup, forgot to mention it's only happening for me in tropico 1, too. The second one works, unfortunately :P
Exactly the same problem for me (running Windows XP).
Pretty poor showing to be honest, to have a downloadable release that is under the impression it won't play without a CD . . .
I have the same issue. I put in a support request and never heard a thing.
Tropico 2 works fine, but Tropico 1 gives me the No CD error.
Additionally, I tried installing it on a different computer (1st Gen Intel iMac running Windows 7), and it launched fine.
The problem is that I bought this for my netbook, and it won't run on the thing...
It doesn't work for me either. I am getting the same error.
I'm having the same problem... Tropico 2 is fine, but trying to launch Tropico 1 pops up a "Can't find Tropico : Gold CD, Disk 1. Please insert the CD (Disk 1) and restart the game." error.
:(
GOG's response to my (numerous and increasingly noisy) support e-mails. I can confirm that this works on my netbook with no CD-ROM drive...

Hello,
I am sorry for not being able to respond sooner.
Tropico has a hidden DRM that we were not aware of and we are now
working on removing it. This problem occurs only on computers with no
CD/DVD drive. The temporally solution to this problem is to install some
kind of virtual DVD drive like DAEMON Tools Lite:
http://www.disk-tools.com/download/daemon
this program is for free for non-commercial use.

rant mode on, but, hmm, are you playing on a computer without CD/DVD drives? Are you THAT against DRM? :D
Let's hope that GOG manage to strip out this hidden DRM from Tropico 1 and once done that they make an announcement that the new version of the download is available.
Tropico is one of the games on here I'm considering getting at some point.

Still nothing, and no response from GOG either. Extremely disappointed here.

Beware you're playing with your job.
If GOG don't test what they sell, and sell drms, you can sink the company.
I hope there are no virus...

It happened for me also only once. It never occurred again.
I don't know what I did different.

I just downloaded this for my NETBOOK as it doesn't have a CD drive and thus I couldn't play Tropico - which I own the CDs for! - on it without borrowing a pal's external drive. So this is a pretty annoying bug.
