Hello,
I have tropico 5 complete installed on 2 computers. It is stuttering badly during the initial menu and during spoken dialogue on my newer computer but not on my older computer. I'd like to get it running smoothly if possible. I've read a lot of issues but it seems no one has really pinned down the issue.

Newer computer:
Windows 7 64 professional: I5 4690 with 8 GB of ram and a mother board of Intel Xeon E3-1200. The video card is a gtx 750 Ti and I'm running on a wide screen 24 inch monitor. It stutters like crazy on this and on homeworld remastered. The video drivers are up to date. D drive in games folder is where game is installed. C drive is an SSD.

Older Computer:
Windows 7 64 professional: Intel Core 2 Quad Processor Q9400 with 4 GB of RAM but do not remember the mother board. The video card is a GTX 750 TI and I'm running on a 21 inch monitor. I also have a nvidia sound card, but do not remember the specific version. The video drivers are up to date. C drive in games folder is where game is installed.

The game and homeworld run perfectly well on the second game. My guess is the sound drivers combined with the motherboard are not running perfectly. The sound card on the second computer is grabbing the sound files and preventing the issues. But how would you fix the issue other than purchasing a sound card?

If you want to exclude the sound, disable the sound first ingame, if no change disable the sound via the device manager and last via bios..

Why? I guess you asking why in this order, right?

Because it might show some let's call it dependencies. (really driver or just the program)

For the newer computer: I am running the same CPU and GB, just with W8.1 and no problem (different motherboard though) and on a 27 inch.

And I do not use my SSD for the game either.

One thing I am not sure about, is the music and voice stuttering or the video?

If it the video, did you think of disabling how is it called again.....the feature of Nvidia for frequency sync with the monitor?

Just use V-sync.....
Also try by renaming the exe into something else. (Would exclude the optimization of the nvidia control center)

I get what you are saying and I did look for the ability to turn off sound/music in the game but it does not have this. Please note that I have almost two identical computers and on 1 computer it runs perfectly find and on the other newer computer without a sound card it has all kinds of issues. I have the same video card and same version of windows in both computers and both computers are up to date with drivers.

On my computer I am using onboard sound as well....no problem. (Only difference win8.1)

And did anything change if you tried it? (yes bad phrasing, you can't turn off....you can only set to 0 ingame)

And just for 'fun'......Don't know if you know it, supreme commander FA ? Some, including me, have the problem that the message: commander under attack, nuclear launch and similar are not always played. Only safe way for me to get it running for a while, re-installing the same driver (again)........then it works for a while, till it fails (again). Even I haven't figured out (yet :D ) why though......no change in the drivers, no change in the registry....nothing I was able to pinpoint.....

Actually as you are using Win7.....do you still have the option video acceleration? Might be worthwhile to check the different settings in there, I do remember that for certain games it had to be off, sometimes on and similar.....(XP)
I did update my realtek audio drivers from 7256 to 7727, but the game still stutters, as well as others. I'm playing them on my older computer becuase it runs perfect on it. Still really annoying.
I finally resolved the issue. The sound and video choppiness was affecting this game and several others. I found a setting that was different between my two computers, I had indexing turned off on my other computer. I turned off indexing on my newer computer and now no more stuttering.
I wanted to give a final update on this issue. It was due to my virus protection program Kapersky. It turned out the indexing helped but did not solve the issue.
