I have not bought this part of Tropico yet, but I am considering it.
From the reviews it seems to be mostly bad, but what is attractive is the coop option.
However, it also says that it requires the galaxy client.

Is this also true for LAN play? Why would it? Is there such an option?

Since I only use Linux I also wonder why the Linux version is not available. I am not reluctant to using wine, but there actually is a Linux version available on Steam and elsewhere. Network play also tends to be problematic through wine.
