To whom it may concern,
I played T1 for the first time since about 2003 earlier today... Played through the tutorial then carried on for 50 years, it was awesome...
Then I closed the game for a few hours. When I came back, the game would bug out moments after loading up a new map. To be specific I'd create a random map, put in my settings, select my dictator and hit 'play' or whatever, it would do the thing where it swooshes out the window to look at the island, do a quick load and - usually - load into the game before the window would resize, freeze, and - when i press alt, to start an alt-tab - a 'DirectDraw error #585" would show up.
I tried compatibility modes etc, but it was half hearted because I knew the game was working fine because i'd just completed the tutorial.
I then tried to gog galaxy verify/repair tool, from the drop down menu net to 'play', in the 'manage installation' sub menu... it downloaded something small, then when i next opened the game and made a map it worked fine.
So, there's the advice, if you're getting a DirectDraw error in T1, try verify/repair'ing it.
