The addition of the third dimension for me wasn't worth how many aspects of the game the devs dropped. 1,2 and had character developments and more weapons for each character. I would have rather seen another 2D Trine game with these these aspects than the 3D, which most of the time which just frustrating because you couldn't tell where platforms or enemies were. Some of the rope tying puzzle, new to this one, were amusing but hardly a mechanic worth writing home about. Overall the things they sacrificed to add the 3rd dimension were what gave the first two its charm. I felt much less compelled to collect since the Triangles had no value.

The loss of potions and Char Devs really made this game less of hybrid and I think it lost alot. Since the Gameplay lost all of its RPG elements, I really think it suffered. Still a fun play. Some beautiful environments, but I think this one was my least favorite. I'd rather they make the next one 2D and bring back all the other weapons and char develop than sacrifice it all for a 3D that barely works.

Any thoughts?

It's one of those games, that didn't successfully transition from 2D to 3D.The depth factor, made most puzzles cumbersome instead of more challenging. How far away should i jump? Can i jump on this thing or is just background? They also made unnecessary sacrifices. Why did they remove the skill point system?Instead of letting you pick and choose the skills you need,in order to solve a certain puzzle or to grab a secret, they just give you all the skills from the get-go!You don't feel like progressing and what's the point of collecting trines?Oh ok,now they are like 'if you don't have x amount, you can't go to the next level'.That feels unrewarding and boring. There's also the game's length described as 'too short',but this may not be a problem for some.Apart from the cons, the music is still great, the enviroments are beautiful and detailed and the voice acting is really good.It could have been way better, had they given it more time,to think out the 3D changes and problems and if they hadn't dumped the skill point system.
Thoughts?I say, stick with trine 1 and 2,and skip this one.If you REALLY want it,wait for a generous sale.

Thanks for the reviews and comments. When I heard they would make it 3D, I was skeptical, and it sounds like that skepticism was sadly well-founded. I love the first two games but have been on the fence for Trine 3 so far. May pick it up in a good sale, but not for the current price.
