3 tries, I always get to the point where grandma gives me the boat, then the second she walks off the screen the game crashes, citing the message displayed in my title. Running Windows 7 64-bit. Any ideas?
Just tried a complete reinstall, getting the same thing at the same time.
Are you running the game as an administrator? It crashed for me too the first time I tried it, but it worked after I ran it with an administrator account.
EDIT: Also, see this thread.

With both the game, and the setup program, they seem to have to be run as Administrator.
Run as Administrator works great, thanks everyone :D
I was having this problem too but run as administrator fixed it. I'm using the Windows 8 consumer preview. I also had to run the settings as administrator to setup my gamepad.
Yeah, problem is, configuration and save data are both per default in a protected directory (%ProgramFiles(x86)%), i'd reccomend to change it to something else, like %appdata%/GoG/$GAMENAME so you can run the game without administrative privileges.

edit: yeah, just installed in %userprofile%. Everything works as expected.
I'd reccomend changing the default for the installer.

gdkags suggestion worked for me! I posted it under my userprofile's section, and it went past the point of when the grandmother left the screen. I am very glad about that! I cut and pasted the entire game folder to my user location's folder under user.
