Breakrys is too difficult (by virtue of bugs which, if fixed, I'm sure would ease the difficulty) for a piddly 200 coin reward. Is there any other reason for beating it?

It's just a mini-game. It exists for the challenge and is totally optional. Lots of folks have beaten it, you just have to learn the patterns for it. Have you tried wearing the appropriate hat?

I'm wearing the red hat. It doesn't prevent the 'ball partially clips through the roof so as to suddenly change direction' bug.

There's no really worthwhile reward, no. It's not necessary for 100% completion.
It's meant to be optional, so I think they deliberately didn't want to make the reward something essential.
