Supreme Commander and Planetary Annihilation are directly connected to this series, both in design and the lead dev for the former (Chris Taylor).

I think you should try Beyond All Reason (BAR).

The game mechanics of KKnD Krossfire is relatively similar to OTA.

There is only 1 ressources (oil) and 2 types of resource generators : solar collector (low output) and thermal exchanger (higher output)
There are land constructible units (customizable tanks) and air units, but no naval units at all.

The bots in this game are a faction called the Series9.

There are also equivalent of Experimental units, the 25th century units that can be found in bunkers (which are not defensive structure at all)
