It seems as though the TA:K intro movie is not included in the game at all. At first I thought there was just no workaround to the intro movie running from the CD, but at least I expected them to keep the intro in the game files. It is a disappointment.

Damn... I thought it was cool that the "original" intro to TAK hinted at the iron plague nation just slightly, while introducing the main story. Apparently this was the expansion intro?

No, the king leaving was the outro. The intro tells the story of how he gave dominion of the four lands to his children and then left.

Damn, I always feel a bit sad when I play an already-expanded game. It's like you are unable to experience the game from its beginning, and bits of the game seem to start half-way through. Especially when the expansion changes the intro and menu theme to be expansion-themed (Diablo II comes to mind, once you have installed the expansion the menu is all about the frozen north and the two new characters, which makes little sense ten years later).

Actually, with the CD version the intro for the expansion just replaces the original one too (they have the same name). But for those who have the original CD, you can read it with RAD Video Tools (it is designed for the .bik files, and free). Adding this intro as a bonus would be interesting!

Actually, I just realised that the TAK GOG installer has a checkbox allowing you to select or deselect the Iron Plague. Has anybody tried not installing the Iron Plague? I assume then it would show you the original intro.
