Hi, first ever post on GOG. I can't seem to get TA to run higher than 1024*768.Since my laptop can display 1280*800, I'd like to get it running in that resolution.

When I play, I have to play in windowed mode (cause I get the 'Environment Initialization Failed' message when I try in fullscreen) but the ingame menu won't let me go higher than 1024*768.

Then, to get it to run fullscreen, I have to change my display settings to 1024*768.

Any suggestions?

I'm running Vista 32.

strange, I was able to select 1440x900 fullsceen (my monitor's native res) in the menu on my Windows 7 Pro 64bit machine.
I get terrible flickering though.
Hmm, Im sure the original worked for that resolution... Im running it in 1920x1200 and it's great..

This http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=5186&start=0 (no fix, but it did work back then)

Did they change anything with the GoG version? because I have all the CD's somewhere else so when im not feeling so lazy I might reinstall from those and see if it's any different.

EDIT: Wait, in the comments there Mark said "Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cavedog Entertainment\Total Annihilation and modify the DisplaymodeHeight and Width keys to fit your favorite resolution."

See if that works for you.

Hey, I have this problem too! Also in Vista 32 bit. I couldn't even start the game properly to begin with (got a black screen, but could hear the intro/menu sounds) before adding -d to the shortcut to run it windowed. And now the game plays only in like 3/4 of my screen:(

Thats odd, the main menu resolution is fixed.. at 640x480. Maybe theres a reason your system doesn't like that?
Yeah, it's weird, I have played other games (like PS:T) in 640x480, but for TA it doesn't work fullscreen apparently! I figured out like the OP that I can of course play the game itself full screen if I change my desktop resolution to1024*768, but still it's annoying not being able to play at the native widescreen 1280*800 res.

finesse,

I'm a bit dumb when it comes to computer stuff, what do you mean by:

"Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Cavedog Entertainment\Total Annihilation and modify the DisplaymodeHeight and Width keys to fit your favorite resolution."

Sorry for the hassle

He means go to the start menu --> type "regedit" and go to the mentioned folder in the registry editor. However, having just tried this, I can't edit the actual display values, but, y'know, those weird values that seem random to normal people. I wouldn't know what numbers to enter to get the 1280x800 res.

EDIT: Actually you can enter the display values by selecting decimals after right-clicking and selecting edit! I will try this now, see if it works ...

2nd EDIT: Aaaaaaaaaaaaaand it works! Thanks a bunch, finesse:)

Just tried this. I can change the values to 1280*800, but it does not change the resolution of the game. Then when I go back into the Registry Editor, the values are back to 1024*768. Hmmmmmmmm.

Edit: Ignore that. I got it working!

finesse, KOC, lets make babies.

Glad you worked it out without me, I was AFK a few days it seems :)

Happy Annihilating.
Worked good for me on my W7 x64 system running 1920x1080.

Many Thanks :)
