I'm looking at the 3 games of 'Tomb Raider 1 Remastered', 'Tomb Raider: Anniversary', and 'Tomb Raider [G.O.T.Y. Edition]'.

I've never in in my life played any of the games in this series. Concerning game play and story, is there any real differences in the three base games mentioned above, or are they all just "differently re-imagined" versions of the same original game?

In case this isn't an April fool's post... because reasons...

Tomb Raider Remastered: Remaster for the first three games, meaning ORIGINAL GAMES with upgraded graphics.

Tomb Raider Anniversary: Reimagining / remake of the first game with the mechanics of Tomb Raider Legend and changes to the story...

Tomb Raider GOTY: worst reboot ever. They rebooted the entire series with this one and is basically an Uncharted clone but without color and more "serious".

Lol. No, it wasn't an April Fool's post. I didn't realize the date, AND I'm too old for that crap. GOG sent me an email offering 'Tomb Raider [G.O.T.Y. Edition]' on sale for only $3.99, so that got me looking at the game. While looking, I discovered the other two games and got confused about which one I should really buy.

Thank you for your answer.

You're welcome.

Personally I believe the Remaster trilogy is the way to go, Specially if you like slower paced adventure platformer games with AMAZING atmosphere. Anniversary if you prefer a modern style game with (unfortunately) quick time events (is from that era, yes). And the Reboot if you prefer "cinematic" action over anything else (the story on this one has nothing to do with the trilogy and anniversary though).

The 1st reboot had atrocious controls, but were reasonably in the spirit of Tomb Raider.

The 2nd reboot is TR in name only. Nothing but a weak mishmash of Far Cry and Uncharted.

The remaster trilogy is the way to go, although zoomers embarrassingly actually try to use the worthless "modern controls" and then complain about the game design.
