Hi there, I can`t place the keys like in the default. The game doesn`t accept "up, down, left, right.

And I dunno, how reset to default.

I'd love to know how to do this too! I can't get TR to recognize PGUP, PGDOWN as user-defined keys, even if they are shown on the default options! Heeeelp!

Presume you mean TR1? It was always a bit finicky with controls. To change settings you need to hit left or right in the control menu to show "User Keys", then change them by highlighting the desired function, pressing enter to select then the key you want to use. If you fudge it up completely, like setting the wrong key for a game pad and not being able to move the selection, delete the settings.dat file in the game directory (back it up first, just in case - and so you can't blame me for anything going wrong!)
