When I start Tomb Raider 1, the opening cutscene plays, then I get the ring menu, but whenever I choose New Game or Lara's Mansion, I get a black screen and I have to do a hard close through the task manager.

I've seen other topics with this problem, but I was wondering if somebody could provide a step-by-step solution to this problem. I am horrible with computers and don't know how to do things like changing Dosbox settings, so any help would be appreciated!

Tombraider 1 comes with it's own glide and if you already have a glide wrapper installed like nglide, it wont work.
Try this:
You need to delete the games glide.dll file.

Step 1.
Go to your Tombraider 1+2+3 directory (where you installed the game)
You should see 4 folders (DOSBOX, Tombraider 1, Tombraider 2 and Tombraider 3) and some files.

Step 2.
Choose the DOSBOX folder, and in that folder, look for a file called "Glide2x.dll", and delete it.

Step 3.
Try running the game again. It should work.

If the game doesn't work, Check your graphics settings for Tombraider 1 via the start menu.

It should be set to Direct3d even though the game uses Glide. If you have this set to OpenGL, the game wont work.

I tried the Game in Safe Mode in witch everything worked, but the Graphics is Horrible

I have this problem too. When I try to start new game, the cutscene does not load, the sceen just turns black and the game gets stuck. If you press ALT and ENTER the game exits fullscreen and the cutscene eventually loads and then you have to go back to full screen again, because the game's window is too small to play in windowed mode. I I have searched around for the solution but no luck, so if anybody knows a solution for this please post it. I have tried deleting the glide2x file but then the game did not work at all.

Potentially useful necro for anybody still experiencing this. I ran the "Graphic Mode Setup" and set it to "DDraw" isntead of "directX" and now its working for me at least.
