Hello all,
I have never been much of a fan of racing games, however after having TOCA 3 for a while now I find it a lot of fun (even though I can't drive worth a damn). Since I this is my first game of this type I can't speak directly to how it compares to other games of this type, however my son has played it quite a bit and he says it is as good as any of the other racing games he currently has. He has several for both the PC as well as the PS 3. I have recently been using my Logitech wireless rumble pad and my driving success has greatly improved. Oh one of the things I like about this game is that it has about all the different types of racing in one game, Classic racing (old cars), GT, open wheel, oval from dirt to indi cars, rally, offroad, etc. There are more but I can't think of them at the moment. It also supports multi player modes, my son is thinking about buying a copy so we can race over our local network.
On a side note for those who dual boot Windows with Linux, I am using Cross Gaming by Code Weavers (which is a commercial front end for WINE) and TOCA 3 installed and runs as good as it does with Windows. Oh if you install it on Linux make sure that the boxes are unchecked for putting icons on the desktop. If you try to have the installer do that your install will fail because X Windows is not the same as Windows XP or Vista, if you want to have an icon on the desktop just follow the method for what ever desktop you happen to be using, most use either Gnome or KDE.
My system is as follows,
EVGA X58 mother board
Intel i7 920 processor
6 GB Corsair ram
EVGA Geforce 260 GT graphic card
Windows Vista Ultimate 64
Mepis 8 64 bit
