O.K. first: I have never played the original. Second: the only kind of this game I ever played so far was "Torchlight".
So it might be that the fault/bug is on my side. However maybe someone could explain it to me. At the beginning you have first attck on your left-mouse-button-slot and health potion on your right-mouse-button-slot. After changing the right slot to one of my earth powers and now back to the health potion strangely sometimes the game shows energy potion in this slot even though I NEVER have assigned this quick slot to anything other than my earth power or health potion. Is this normal behaviour, is it just on my machine or am I just too stupid to understand the meaning?

I think the game is trying to be "smart" here. Put health potion there if you have wounds, and energy potion if you are below full energy.

In any case, the RMB slot is too precious to me to waste on potions. I just have 'R' and 'E' keys mapped to health and energy potions, attack skill with short recharge on RMB and both potions on the slots 8 and 9 (to see their cooldown).
I haven't played the anniversary edition yet, but in the CD version the mouse wheel switches the RMB slot between the numerical slots. Perhaps you've been accidentally scrolling the wheel?
