Has anybody gotten past this? I'm just after Kairn Conan or whatever the name of that dwarven city is; I've gotten to a weird barrier down in some caves, and it says it's used to keep outsiders out and the dark dwarves in. Is there any way to get past it?

That's not the exit. You can't pass it. It's just there to show that they burrowed into the city as part of the bigger assault.

Ah, ok, that makes sense. Hopefully, the real exit is around there somewhere right?

If you're doing the quest that I think you're doing with a certain NPC, then you need to go back up the elevator. Pull all the switches and you should raise a bridge that you need to cross.
