I was quite a few years when I played this, but I belive the game was more fluid back in the day. Is it just me, or GOG release really has slower animations that the original?

It's not just you.
The game runs in 18 fps. I am not sure why would they come up with this weird number, but unfortunately there it is.
So at least I know it's not something on my end. Well.. .slightly a shame, but oh well - I waited for this quite some time, so I can deal with this.

Thank you. :)
The game does feel a bit slower than it used to be, but I've always found it had a slight stutter.

Still, I've just found that using a wrapper like dgVoodoo or DxWnd (harder to use but plenty of settings) gives it a smoother feel (checking the FPS counter, it still seems it's locked at 18fps when nothing moves, but as soon as you move the pointer it skyrockets to 200-500).

(as a note, using Vsync (even Adaptive) or a framerate limiter only makes things worse though)

I'm using the original CD version, patched with the 1.3.2 beta. It is also locked at 18.

However, by enabling the console, it can be changed to different numbers. I am unsure if this ability is in the GOG version.

Warning, this increases (or lowers) the speed of the ENTIRE game, so use with caution (it's just as easy to switch back).

Enable console ingame by pressing ctrl+shift+tilde. Then just press tilde.
Type:
seta framerate #
With the # being the framerate you wish the game to be locked to.
You can also type "help" for a list of commands.

Setting this quite high can reduce amount of time waiting for heroes to heal in the shrine room later when they have very high health point amounts. It is almost required for frequent resurrects if playing in the brutal hard mode (1.3.2 only) lategame, since many of the archers one-shot.
Great info, thanks!

It also works on GOG 1.2.18.

For people who can't open the console in-game (Tilde can be an issue, it works on my Azerty keyboard though), you can also enter the commands in \Config\Throne.cfg (in the first section), like so: seta "FrameRate" "20" . Actually, this one might be there already without using the console.
