check here. There is also a workaround in that thread to extract the
*.pkg if the problem isn't the destination folder.
piserman: Thank you very much, I hope this .pkg policy will be abandoned soon. I will try to extract the pkg, but there is no app file opening it with Pacifist. The problem is literally that it installs nothing. This is not a 1.5 € game, it is new and not being able to use it is quite disappointing.

I managed to follow the instructions on that thread and now I have a working updated game. When you open the pkg file in Pacifist, click the "Resources" tab and look for a folder called "payload" among the resources. Select the "payload" folder and click "Extract."
Once you extract the "payload," look for it and rename the folder to "Thimbleweed Park.app," et voilá!
Put the newly minted copy of the game in your Applications folder or wherever you want and get playing. :)
