the game is notorious for having a lot of issues with modern hardware and operating systems (for example issues with multicore cpus, codecs/movies, awful graphics when running on dx10+ graphics hardware and more), so the big question is - what has been fixed?

edit: they fixed the installer issues (obviously, as they have used the gog installer instead of the original one) and the multicore issue (game kept freezing unless forced to run on one core). the rest of the issues stays, so http://www.gog.com/en/forum/thief/tgfix_widescreen_resolutions_fixedimproved_graphics_etc/post1

The only problem I noticed was the movies issue (you have to register a dll and run in admin mode, there is a thread with instructions). I played through the training and it ran just like it did a decade ago.
I'm Staggered beyond belief that GoG released this game without even bothering to fix it, you guys need to head over to www.ttlg.com where the community fixed it for free.

By right GoG should bloody well be fixing this, seeing as they are charging for it...!!!

Raise hell (well, within reason) on the main forum, not just this subforum.

I have Windows 7 Home 64-bit. All I had to do to get the game to work was to run the game as administrator. The videos run and everything. Maybe it's possible the DLL people are saying needs to be registered had already been registered on my PC from a previous install of Thief I tried to get working a year or two ago. But, all I did this time was install the game, right-click the icon, go to properties, compatibility tab, set it to have administrator privileges, then it runs just as it did when I first played the game.

No setting affinities, no patches.

$10 well spent in my opinion.
Runs fine on my Windows 7 PC and if you run as administrator the films run. GOG is not obligated to install years worth of fan patches, the idea is to get the game running as it was when it came out.
videos doens't work.. even as administrator.
