Gazoinks: Sadly, it probably won't be. I don't know the whole story, but apparently the rights belong to an insurance company or something.
I've heard that as well. I hate when good games disappear because of crap like that.
Well, the guards and civilians just developed super human fucking hearing and sight. I'm on Caverns and I'm entering the Opera House. I'm having stupid civilians scream THEIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF before I even know where they are. The guards literally turn on a dime the second I crouch step into the fucking building and say "I'll find you! " They track me wherever I go. I managed to get in and I turned around and there were 6 guards up my ass. Glitch?
Classic flaw with all FPS games with stealth elements: how the hell do they recognize you by *sound* alone? Why will guards go ballistic at the sound of foot steps in areas where the foot steps would be more likely to come from friendlies?

I have never had a problem sneaking in this game until this level. I even shot moss arrows at my feet before stepping into the room and they still immediately start looking for me.

Well, I don't remember anything wrong with this level the times I've played it. Maybe you just had bad luck?
I think there's a glitch or something. usually i can run circles around the NPCs in this game. Then, suddenly, I can't even sneak past a guard facing the other way on the other side of the room. Even crouch walking with moss alerts them.
Guards get hypersensitive when they have been repeatedly harassed. This can reach a level where they detect you on the most silent surfaces while you're meters behind them.

Your case sounds more like a glitch though. Maybe some physics object got crazy during the first part of the mission and alerted everyone, or something. I can only suggest you try restarting the mission.

I finally got past it. I ended up running the whole thing just to get through it.

Because Garret is the only person in the city who wears ceramic tap shoes. Obviously. :P
out

Incidentally, one thing I find missing in a lot of non-Thief stealth games is the actual thieving. Deus Ex stealth is fun, but it doesn't have that impish appeal of slipping into a room, grabbing everything that's not nailed down, and taking a guard's money pouch and an arrow from his quiver on your way out..

I'm about to throw my damn computer out of the window. So, you're goal is get out of the area? Let's make you have to raise someone from the fucking dead to get out, and NOT put it in the objective list. That will add a lot to exploration! I know it makes no sense but it's one of the levels with the undead, so it's okay. FUCK YOU Looking Glass.
I've spent more than half of my time on this game feeling like finding the creator and cutting his throat open and watching him die slowly. Oh, my God. If I don't start enjoying this game for more than one level before feeling this frustrated then I won't finish this one. Maybe the next one is better. I can't even beat some of these stupid fucking levels WITH A DAMN WALKTHROUGH. What the fucking hell. Two fucking levels from the damn end and I can't tolerate it anymore.

What? Which level are you talking about here?
Return to the Cathedral. Sure, I guess I'm not really raising someone from the dead. I think I'm supposed to collect items and do a ritual. I don't really know what to do because it's not on the objective list and as far as I know it isn't mentioned that I need to do it to escape. I've looked everywhere and I don't know how to get out.
That's another case where you have to pay attention to what a character (in this case, Murus) is saying, because the game doesn't write it down for you. Same stuff as the key and the safe in Thieves' Guild. I guess you'll have to check a walkthrough (try this http://www.lytha.com/thief/wt/rtc.phtml ). Or ask for help here. :)

Too bad this thing gets you, because RTTC is the one fo the best levels in the entire franchise.
If it helps, I love the Thief games, but I had a similar reaction two weeks ago when I got to a certain level in Thief Gold. It drove me up the wall until I decided to change my approach and accept that I would not be going unseen. Good luck!

I think I can safely say that you will enjoy the second game more. It has more of the kinds of missions you've enjoyed and far fewer of the kind of missions you haven't enjoyed.

If you can stick it out, I highly recommend finishing the first game because it has a really good ending and sets up the story for the second game. But I understand if you simply find it too frustrating.
