The store page for Thief Gold says you get both Thief TDP and the Thief Gold Update. Does this mean I can install the original game (TDP) WITHOUT the gold update and play the original?

This appeals to me. If this is the case, I will probably get it. If not, well, I've still got my Thief Gold CDs.

I can't see any download page for Thief TDP, only Thief Gold.
The wording on the store page is a bit too open for interpretation. There never was a Gold "update" AFAIK, but two different products.

Thief Gold has always been a standalone release. What they're referring to is that you get TDP with all the contents from Gold.

I understand you would like to play TDP.
Then I guess you should know that you can "downgrade" a Thief Gold install to TDP, with GoldToDark (unofficial "patch").
It should also work with one made from the CD version you mentionned already having.

just remember to install TFix last.
