ive seen these games on Steam today 50% im wondering is it better to get the GoG versions of the game or are the Steam versions working fine aswell on newer systems im on Windows 7 btw and have a gtx580. I already own Thief 2 from a old cd-rom but i would really like to have the series in digital form

nevermind i just remembered even though i loved Thief 1 & 2 back then i also remember why i stopped played them. The zombies and locations got too scary for me and i just looked through some videos on youtube of the Haunted Cathedral/Cragscleft Mines and even Thief 3 which i have never played has a scary level called Shalebridge Cradle. I couldnt go through these games again i thought the gfx in the 2 games had faded enough for it to not be that scary but i will shit my pants once i hit those levels

Yep, they're pretty scary, although Thief 2 is less so. It's the sound that's so terrifying, really.

Anyway, I'll answer your original question in case others come here looking for the answer. The GOG version has been tweaked so it will run on multi-core processors and Windows 7. [[The Steam version doesn't have these same tweaks so it's harder to get it working "out of the box" but it can be fixed with fan patches. So it depends on how much hassle you want to put in yourself.]]

EDIT: Apparently I was wrong and the Steam version does come with the same fixes. See posts below.

I should note that the fan patches can also add a lot of optional stuff, like widescreen resolution support and optional upgraded graphics. If you want those, then you will have to apply the fan patches to the GOG version also. The GOG version ONLY fixes issues with running the games, it doesn't add any modern features.

The Steam versions come with ddfix.

Really? I swore I saw people on these forums complaining that the Steam version still had trouble with multi-core processors. If I was incorrect, I apologize.

I can confirm it does come with ddfix but a laughably old version of it. All I did was download the new DLL and ini file from the latest release and everything looks rosey.

I will say, however, that everything worked before I updated my version of ddfix so no complaints on that front, it works straight out of the box and does so admirably.

It comes with the same version that the GOG version of thief comes with; the last one that I worked on. Enough to get the game working, but none of the fancy new features from the new version.
