Hi,

I seem to be having an issue with the cutscenes in the two dark engine thief games, the simple issue is that the videos refuse to play in game (both the intro and various story videos). Troubleshooting this issue on google, I have found that TFix is a usual fix, however these issues presist with the TFix 2.5b patch and HD mod.

I have attempted to fix this issue by; Loading in admin mode, rebooting, reinstalling but sadly the videos will simply not play ingame, however the videos are within the Movies folder and can be loaded on FLV media player (meaning that the files are not corrupted).

It appears that the games cannot find the videos as when pressing the intro button on the main menu, the screen goes black for half a second as if it is trying to load it, at which point it returns to the main menu.

Could use a bit of help with this as there doesn't seem to be any help from other sources.

rebooting the computer after installing TFix usually helps. uhh, try doing it again?

I've done all that, still no luck, however I managed to get the videos to work on a single session since posting, but how this was accomplished was a bit mad, I relaunched the game about 6 times which on the 7th managed to get the intro to play however trying to load a save crashed the game. Relaunching caused the videos to stop working again and after cycling through launching from GOG galaxy and the shortcuts, I managed to get it to run the videos without crashing.

This took maybe 30 mins, I have no idea what kind of error would cause this type of problem, i'm on win7 however I don't think that would cause this much bother.
check your thief.log, maybe there will be some failures listed.

I've had a look through the THIEF.log file and no record of failures (annoying, as that would have been useful to debug), This is a strange bug indeed! I'll add in the log's starting info if you want to see:
