RyanFialcowitz: EAX is no longer available in modern operating systems. The only way it will show up is if it's emulated. This generally occurs by having both a Creative card & using Creative's Alchemy software. If you don't use both it's not likely to work. . .

jonpol: I have been working on a project that restores 3D positional sound to Thief 1 and 2 on modern versions of Windows if you don't have a Creative card:

http://www.indirectsound.com/

Unfortunately it doesn't emulate EAX yet, but if you have surround speakers you may want to try it out.
I see latest version supports EAX 1.0 and 2.0.
Thief: Deadly shadows requires EAX 4.0 though... let us know please when it's ready! Thanks a lot :)

With a Realtek HD ALC668 chipset? Are you sure Creative Alchemy does support other sound cards/audio chipsets?
I think it requires a Creative sound card.

not sure about ALC668 but i can hear the difference on my ALC1150. i am using X-Fi MB3 so the latest ALchemy can work, but for its price it might be better to just get an actual sound card.

here you can hear the difference with EAX enabled using Realtek with Alchemy:
https://youtu.be/GkK22hZj1gA

there are 3 options:

1. Windows XP machine/boot drive with real PCI or PCIe X-Fi sound card so you don't need to use ALchemy emulation.

2. modern sound card like Sound Blaster Z using ALchemy emulation

3. software solution like Sound Blaster X-Fi MB3 with ALchemy emulation (like on my Realtek 1150).

option 1 would def sound the best but i am not sure if it's a big difference since i havent found any comparisons.

Yes. X-Fi MB3 is a Creative software working also with other chipsets emulating also EAX 4 HD of Thief Deadly Shadows. The only software solution ATM for EAX3.0/4.0 support.
