For Thief 2, should I lock fps to 60, or is 100 (or even higher) fine for correct gameplay?

should work either way, but don't forget to lock phys_freq to 60 in cam_ext.cfg if you are going over 60fps.

I’ve been thinking… is there a reason for it not to be set by default ?

my guess is the engine's preferred way of handling physics is via FPS lock. the alternate methods are probably not as good/safe (else they would already be set as defaults).
