Okay, so, I hate using the keyboard for first-person games. WASD is nothing but a d-pad that requires three fingers to operate, and a joystick feels much better. But I love the mouse for aiming.

Lately, for first-person games, I've been using a combination of the PlayStation Move navigation controller and the mouse, and it's been beautiful, but I have a problem with Thief and Thief II: My fourth and fifth mouse buttons -- the ones on the side that my thumb can easily access -- aren't recognized. Only left, right, and middle click work. Is there any way to get those extra mouse buttons to be mappable?

not without some additional software that would allow you to map keyboard buttons on the extra mouse buttons.
Hates WASD?

Blasphemy!

Besides how do you play Thief without a keyboard as it's not a typical FPS. Between all the different ways to move, weapons, gadgets, etc etc you'd need a mouse with 40 buttons on it.

Okay, that works. After I read your comment, I searched for mouse mappers, and I found X-Mouse Button Control, and it's working fantastically well. Thanks for the tip!

PlayStation Move navigation controller+mouse, my friend. Best first-person control scheme I've found on the PC so far. :D I get the single-thumb, all-speeds movement of a joystick, but the precision aiming and speed of a mouse. Plus, the navigation controller has a ton of buttons that are all supported by Thief (using MotioninJoy, of course).
