I've finished getting the two Thief GOGWiki articles started and I think I've covered the brunt of the issues. If you come across any more, please feel free to add any information you think necessary.

The goal of the GOGWiki is for it to become your first stop for GOG troubleshooting and compatibility guidance, so keep that in mind if you go to edit.

Without further ado, here's the Thief Gold article and here's the Thief 2 article.

This should be sticked

TheJoe: Without further ado, here's the Thief Gold article
the texture pack you mention there has been integrated to TGfix 1.04 (and as always, proper edits have been made to ensure hassle free drag & drop installation).

Oh wonderful. I'll update the wiki to mention that.

And thanks a lot for TGfix, the hassle of getting Thief working perfectly is completely gone now :)
no problem.

btw, noticed that you mention widescreen support on the t2 wiki - note that ddfix 1.3.11b does not have widescreen support, and you need to use darkwidescreen as far as I'm aware .

Thanks for collecting all this information. I am not familiar with all the community patches, so I was hoping someone could clear this up for me:

GOG's Thief 2 now comes with DDfix as an option, but Thief Gold does not? Is there no DDfix for Thief Gold or is it not required for some reason?

Also, GOG's Thief Gold installer apparently now registers the Indeo video dll, but I noticed Thief 2's installer registers LGVID.AX. What does this file do?

Thanks!!
thieg gold does not come with ddfix. if you want to install it, see the sticky.

lgvid.ax is the thief 2 video codec. needs to be registered in windows in order to play the cutscenes.
Ok, thanks for the info. Any reasons why GOG does not include DDfix 'out-of-the-box' for Thief Gold? It appears both games work fine for me so far without DDfix, but maybe there is a good reason (not) to use it for Thief Gold?

It's something to do with code ownership problems, I'm not too sure. Even if Thief Gold did get DDFix, it'd be like Thief 2 and would have to have 1.3.11b, which is a very old version of DDFix.

TGfix is your best option for Thief Gold.
The latest (yesterday) build of Thief Gold includes DDFix 1.3.11b.

Yes, we used 1.3.11 version and no, we probably won't update it for several reasons:

- we have Timeslip's permission and that's his last version before jermi took over
- DDFix was added to address one particular bug, that couldn't be easily solved otherwise (Thief 2 textures)
- since we already used it in Thief 2, in Thief Gold it was added for convenience, so that people wouldn't have to manually edit .dll paths in thief.exe

Please remember we rarely add unofficial fixes / patches, unless the game is in unplayable state. We should provide a base as close to the original as possbile, which ensures compatibility with most community tweaks. But users can choose themselves which they want to use.

agreed, that's the way to go. but, if I may speak my mind freely, there is one game that could really use those official patches you should have no problem with, and nothing seems to be happening for quite a long time, even though I have logged two support tickets.

I just redownloaded and I see no change in the setup; MD5 and version are both the same as the one without DDfix included. Did the updated build get published?
Just redownloaded Thief Gold, and for me there is now a register Indeo option in the installer (didn't notice it before) as well as an added start menu folder 'tools' containing the no-ddfix shortcut.

Perhaps a bit OCD (I am VERY happy to have these games in playable again!), but I would prefer it if GOG would use the same start menu structure for both TG and T2 consistently and put both exes next to each other in stead of in a sub-folder for TG... (and use either parentheses or square brackets in the shortcut name, not both... ;) ).
