Charon121: *raises hand*
I thought it would be a game with me vs. human guards, but then I jumped over a corpse and it stood up, moaning terribly. From that point onwards, I would check online to see which level was a "human level" and which was a "monster level". For the latter, I would use a printed walkthrough to get them over with as quickly as possible.
But the real shock came on that level where you have to look for the ruined cathedral, when I encountered my first spider. It came charging at me immediately, and I reached for my computer's hard reset button in panic. There's something about the way it moved and hissed. I'm still slightly arachnophobic, but let me tell you,
Skyrim was a breeze in comparison.
Skyrim's spiders have got nothing on
Thief's spiders.
Skyrims spiders arent that frightening.
Im on the second level right now. I much prefer the human levels (which is why i bought Thief II, apparently there are more of those in that game)
My first encounter with a spider was in the mission editor. I spawned a bunch of them near a group of male actors (the guys that go "LALALALALA") in hopes that they would turn against them in a hilarious display of chaos. Unfortunately the spiders only had interest in me. That sound they make is.....ughhhh.
As far as video game spiders go
Not so bad:
Skyrim
Diablo II (they die in one hit, and their death animation is hilarious they just leak guts everywhere)
Frightening beyond belief:
Baldurs Gate I (because of how powerful they are)
Icewind Dale
Neverwinter Nights
Thief
I just shat my pants
Half Life 2 (black headcrabs, they might not technically be spiders, but they mimic the most frightening qualities of them)
System Shock 2
The Elder Scrolls Arena....i have no idea why, but even when i play this game today, something about the way the spiders move, and their death animation, its terrifying, even if its only 20 or so pixels. Also they can destroy you in seconds.
