I was doing a test play of Thief Gold (with Tfix installed) and I noticed that the default EAX setting is off and I can't change it. This is on a new self built Windows 7 64-bit PC with no dedicated audio card so I assume EAX is not in my PC and I have to download it separate? What do I need, where do I get it and do I need to install and set it up a specific way?

you need openal: http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/oalinst.zip
So I just extract that with WinRar, run the exe and that's it? I'll have EAX? Any specific place I should tell the exe to install OpenAL or can I just install in Program Files as usual?
just install it and then select openal as your sound driver in the sound options menu, and eax should become available.

Cool, thanks! If I have any problems I may ask a follow up question.
I just tried this but I dont see where I can select a sound driver/turn eax on. There is an option for hardware acceleration i can click on but just stays off, eax is pretty much greyed out as off. What could I be doing wrong?
Hi guys,

I have a similar problem, but the solution mentioned won’t work for me.

I have a dual-boot PC with Windows 7 x64 and for emergencies a Windows XP x86. My sound card is a Creative Audigy 2 ZS (a card which fully supports EAX Advanced HD), with newest drivers on both systems. Both operating systems are fully up to date and have the newest drivers for all components.

What happens now, when I play Thief 3, I cannot activate EAX in the game when I play with Windows 7 x64. This is strange because I can activate it under Win XP x86. I see that the GOG - installer already activates compatibility mode when the game is installed under Win 7, but that doesn't help at all. My other games don't have EAX issues though under Win 7 (old and new ones), they work perfectly fine with my system (Borderlands 2 is in full 7.1 for example).

Can you help me please? XP is my emergency system, I would like to play the game on my main system. And EAX is essential in Thief 3, without it the game becomes useless. Could it be that I need the ALCHEMY - driver? I didn't install it because after installing the normal sound card driver I saw that EAX works without further configuration.

Best regards,
