So I just bought Thief.

I'm a Mac user running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit under VMWare Fusion 4.1.1.

I ran the Thief installer as administrator and am running Thief itself as administrator. I've done the "regsvr32 ir50_32.dll" command and that registered successfully.

Yet whenever I start Thief all I get is a black screen. I can hear the audio and, pressing randomly, seem to be able to interact with, I suppose, the game menu. But all I see is blackness.

Hope someone can help me out.

Okay so it seems like this is another of those games that doesn't like the VMware 3D driver. If I turn that off the game loads.

Unfortunately it seems to be running at something like 640x480 or, maybe, 800x600. That's the best resolution offered in the resolution options.

But it's progress.

try using the hdradeon+winxp fix from the sticky.
