j0bb13: Well... I bought the game on Steam just now :(
I would have prefered to use the DRM-free version of the game, but I also want a stable game without missing updates... It's not ideal, but it's the world we live in.
I... Don't mean to tell you what to do with your money, but that's called rewarding bad behavior, and unfortunately it penalizes other people who are trying to do the right thing - which is voting with their money.
Personally, I decided to stop paying a single dime to steam after I became unable to play a game I had bought and paid because it didn't have the latest and greatest update. Which I couldn't download because my internet connection was down.
Because there is no option in steam to say "I don't want the latest and greatest version of the game, I am perfectly fine with what I have, which is working perfectly and has no issues, andhas been working perfectly with no issues for years".
So, the next time you decide to spend money on steam, I would urge you to instead go see a movie. Or buy a disneyflixfox channelstream subscription. Or buy a good bottle of whiskey and get drunk.
Because paying twice for the same game means rewarding bad faith behavior on the part of the developers, and rewarding steam for selling away your rights as a customer.
Sorry if I come off as preaching, but steam really rubs the wrong way, and so do developers who refuse to support their users. I have been asking Ludeon to get me a GOG key for my Rimworld for a while now. I am waiting to buy the expansions until they do. From the looks of it I will be waiting a long time. I still refuse to get a steam key and buy the expansions on steam, however.
Doing the right thing often entails sacrifices. In the grand scheme of things, not playing a game you would probably like is not much of one, but every person who gives money to vavle to continue selling out their users' rights is actively squandering the efforts of those who consciously don't. So.
Thank you for coming to my TED talk :P
