Hi,

the GOG-Version seems to be stripped of the map editor that's included with the Steam release.

Neither is it available from In-Game (should be under "Moare" in the main menu), nor is the -editor command line parameter working.

@GOG/Numantian: Please don't give us the short straw here and bring the GOG release up to par with Steam.

Best regards and thanks for an otherwise awesome game!
I emailed the developer about it directly. I'll post back if they reply.

Hello,

For now Map Editor is not going to be in GOG version because it depends on the STEAM Workshop.

This is a really, really bad news. No mission editor and unable to load custom maps. Too bad, chicos.

Hay alguna posibilidad de que añadais algún editor sin necesidad del Whorkshop? o añadirlo aparte o algo por el estilo?
Holly scumballs Batman! I came to RAGE about the GOG version NOT including the map editor, but it seems it's already been reported. The store page does not explicitly note this, but it should. The editor, you know, that allows users to create their own fucking maps, is not part of the GOG version. Fuck the fake Steam Workshop reason. Whilst there may be an ounce of "technically true" part, it could be made to work anywhere. Yes, the Steam version (which I do have) uploads finished maps to the Workshop "cloud", but making/editing them does not at all rely on that. ..and like many, I just want to make (or even edit existing ones) and play myself not share or whatever.

This is yet another GOG crippled version scenario.

I downloaded the GOG version today, ergo my visit now, because I wanted to spend a long time in the editor and the Steam version runs from within the game, meaning it racks up game time on profile, which I would not like. Yes, I'm OCD-like about that, and being in the editor for hours would make it look like I played the game for those many extra hours. I thought, hey, install the GOG version and problem solved. Like fuck! GOG ain't gots it, bubs. BURN!!!

I truly am shocked the GOG version is incomplete. Did not know this until today. Yeah, had the game on Steam/GOG since launch (actually Steam before that via direct dev purchase) so this is news, to me, about GOG crippled version.

tl;dr Fuck GOG/Numantian and any of you downvoting.

Cananas: ..and unable to load custom maps.
Why do you say this? Did it not work back in 2019? I just tested it, because that would make this version truly insane if so, and you CAN play custom maps. I just tested it and it works. I accept maybe an earlier version did not allow it, but it works now. ..and again, why did you specifically say this? Did you try a custom map and it did not work? ..because some older custom maps from 2018 for example, which worked and I still have, stopped working (I think due to them doing something to maps) even on Steam version. That's a different thing. Maps made in 2020 and after do work in GOG version. I have several, including ones made via web tool and not even the official editor and they work. (TESTED TODAY 14th October 2021)

For anyone interested in the far better editor than the built in one, in terms of ease of use for noobs use this;
https://ash47.net/TheyAreBillionsModKit/MapEditorHtml/

Yes, long abandoned because maker (Ash) is a tool, but for now still usable to some extent. I spoke with him ages ago and he, like the game devs has some hardon "mental" issue with allowing players to have freedom. He refused to make a final update to include the mutants and a few final assets. That was still at a time the editor was updated and the game being worked on. Again, I spoke with him several times and it was a "political" decision, and not because he couldn't. One of his main responses was along the lines of; "Well, the game now has a built in editor, so no point updating this one." Yeah, but yours is ten times better and simpler and "I'm even willing to pay you something for a final update.". He refused and went into "lockdown" mode.

Well... could you tell me how do you run a custom map on GOG version then?

I have some custom maps on "Documents\My Games\They Are Billions\CustomLevels", but when I run the game, there is no "New => Custom Level" option available.

ahhhhhh. okay boss, looks like we (from my side) have a misunderstanding of sorts. my bad. after seeing your directory link i get what you mean. i was talking about playing maps from existing saves. that's what i tested with the gog version. opening and/or playing (via launching fresh?) fresh maps the way i now understand you want (and yes, very bad gog version doesn't have that, in fact rage inducing) to be able to. oh boy.

however, that awesome map editor i linked to (which for now even though no longer updated is still up/usable) can be used even today to make working CUSTOM maps. so in a way you CAN run "custom maps" via gog still that way. the map maker is used to customize the map and when you export it, it produces a clean, day 0, hour 0 save - just as if you start a new game and you exit & save the second the game loads. so it's not the "map" file, rather the end result.

to me, since i always only used that editor (which btw, existed before the game's own, kek) i got used to it (very simple via WYSIWYG style editing) and never used the game's one. using it you can create fresh maps (including two large sizes past normal size, that are so large they cripple even ninja pcs after a while once more zombies spawn) or import an existing save. that's great, because it means you can edit any existing map that way without having the "work map files".

the only "problem" with it is that they abandoned it as i say, for bullshit "reasons" as soon as game released its own and so have not added mutants to it and the final map theme. it has the game's initial four map themes which you can switch between, but not the fifth toxic waste one. it is also not able to extract the current save passwords, again, because abandoned.

BTW, DO YOU KNOW THE CURRENT SAVE PASSWORD? by current i mean from 2020 or when they "finished" the game. it has not changed since but it's still newer than what the web map editor is capable of using. if you do, post or pm if scared to post. i want the current saves password. anyone?

I am very interested in this, since I saw it first come out, but I was told the game is only Half done/ Available on gog. The editor, endless mode or endless mod is unavailable since it is drm. Is this true?

In game as is - yes, Map Editor and Workshop map support is missing (probably possible to put maps downloaded as archives - but no one release them like that).

There is tweak for that ut probably better not discuss it here

I am very disappointed now, and Not just because I am saving some money. This just adds to the list of games of bs about being left behind or just considering us as not worth the effort. I am not sure which is worst, game companies doing this, or gog letting them do it.

Saved me a few dollars.
